The property hosts the northern most occurrence of natural Hot Springs on Chile’s famous Southern Highway. The most famous thermal hot spa in Northern Patagonia is Puyuhuapi, which lies 120 mi (188 km) south of Chaiten, whereas Termas Amarillo is significantly closer (22 miles, 33 km), putting the property in easy reach of Puerto Montt, Chile’s gateway city to Patagonia.
The property also abuts the famous nature reserve of Pumalin Park, which was the concept of philanthropist and conservationist, Douglas Tomkins. The south entrance of Pumalin Park lies only a few miles from the property and offers visitors the opportunity to hike the park’s well-maintained trails. Two iconic hikes that can be made from the park include, trekking to the base of the Michimahuida Glacier or the ash covered summit of the Chaiten Volcano, which erupted spectacularly in the Spring of 2008.
Another feature of the property is its easy access to the renowned sport fishing destination of the Yelcho Lake and Lower Futaleufu River. The lake and river boast large populations of Rainbow, Brook and Brown Trout as well as Chinook Salmon Runs that occur each Autumn. The lake also offers the opportunity for single or multiday sea kayak excursions and horseback riding around its perimeter. And feeding the lake is world famous Futaleufu River, known for its truly world class kayaking and rafting expeditions.
